It is the day Machu Picchu was announced one of the New Seven Wonders of the world! It is also a World Heritage Site (UNESCO, 1983). Besides its important tiles, it is a place for all hearts! Every single person that visits the ruins feels glad for being there! Either by taking the Inca Trail or alternative options to go to the ruins, it is an unforgettable experience!
Mapi, as it is known by local tour people, has received all kinds of visitors from all over the world. Shakira and Cameron Diaz are just two of them, who fell in love with the place!
Cusco and Machu Picchu are the most visited places in Peru. Every year, over 450,000 people go there, and because of tourist and economic impacts in the zone, UNESCO is about to declare Machu Picchu an “Endangered World Heritage Site”.
The government of Cusco is who controls the Inca Trail and visitations to Cusco and region. They are aware of the importance of protecting what was once, the most important spots of the Inca Empire. That’s why the Inca Trail itself can only be sold by local agencies and is closed in February for maintenance. Also, there are some other steps they are taking for granting and updating the possibilities of getting to know these wonders!
