Located about 30 km from Cusco, this Incan village stands at 3.762 masl, from where the views of the surrounding mountains (Salkantay, Vilcabamaba range) are astonishing! Perhaps for its so high position, it’s said to be the rainbow birth-place lol In Chinchero there’s also a beautiful and colorful market, a little smaller than Pisac’s one though. History says that it was Tupac Yupanqui’s (Incan governor) country resort. The main attraction of this site is the huge stone wall, located in the Central Plaza, and its 10 trapezoid-shaped niches. Another appealing construction in Chinchero is the Colonial church made in the XVII century, upon the remains of an Incan temple. The market sells a wide variety of handicrafts known internationally for its good quality.
Our next stop in the
Sacred Valley is the Pisac market (I’ll possibly endure to climb-up to the Pisac ruins by myself!)
